Which summer reading books should I pick?

The Crucible is good (It's actually a play) and has double historical meaning--It's literally about the Salem Witch Trials but it was written during the era of McCarthyism when people were being acccused of being communists left and right. I think The Road is an apocalyptic novel and probably one of the more brutal--the movie's rated R, I believe. I don't know the others.
